Manuscript submission guidelines

NB: The redaction will not accept neither for peer review, nor for publication  the contributions only summarizing the extant research on the subject, without carrying out the own analysis and / or interpretation. The authors are encouraged to submitt only essays with original scholarship. The maximum length of a study should be 40 pages (1 page = 1800 characters with spaces); the length of editions should be 30 pages maximum; the length of Miscellanea (containing original research) 5 pages maximum; discussions should be 10 pages maximum.

The manuscript submission for publication in Listy filologické must conform to the following formal rules:

General

• the best way for sending your submission is via e-mail to the redaction´s address, in well grounded cases it is possible to send it by regular mail, appending the media (floppy, CD) with an electronic version and indicating the kind of word processor used

• if your submission contains some texts not written in the Roman alphabet (e.g. Greek, Hebrew, Arabic etc.), beside the electronic version send always the printed version as well

• in case of Greek font, please use always GraecaII font (if you do not have this font, please, contact the redaction)

• footnotes should be inserted by means of word processor; do not write them to the single sheet of paper

• append an English summary to your article (approx. 10-15 lines), three to five key words in English and your full mail address as well as your e-mail

• due to the anonymous reviewing of all submissions, do not write your name into the text and remove all indications pointing at you in the footnotes as well

• the redaction can not provide a language revision of the texts written in foreign languages; we therefore advise authors to have theior text corrected by the native speaker

• if accepted, the authors can revise their submissions in one set of proofs

• after the journal is published, the author af an article receives one issue of Listy filologické together with 10 offprints

• after the journal is published, the author of a review receives 2 offprints

• deadline for submission of manuscripts is at the end of December (for double-issue 1-2) and the end of June (for double-issue 3-4)

 

Format and citation

• in the main text, please use following format:

  • denominations of works should be in italics, without the quotation marks (e.g. Ovid, Ars amatoria)

  • use italics when employing Latin phrases in the main text (e.g. in extenso)

• in the footnotes:

  • in references to the secondary literature always write the whole names of the author in small cap (ctr + shift + K)

  • monographs: the titel in italics, after the comma the place and year of publication (e.g. Heinrich Hoppe, Syntax und Stil des Tertullian, Leipzig 1903, pp. 112-131); the volumes shoud be signalized as follows: Eduard Norden, Die antike Kunstprosa von VI. Jh. v. Chr. bis in die Zeit der Renaissance, I-II, Berlin - Leipzig 1898 (Nachdr. Darmstadt 1981⁸). The name of publisher (if wanted) can be added behind the place of publication, e. g. Leiden - Boston, Brill 2007.

  • the article in Festschrift: follow this exampel: François Gasparri, Le latin de Suger, abbé de Saint-Denis, in: Les historiens et le latin médiéval, (édd.) Monique Goullet - Michel Parisse, Paris 2001, pp. 177-193. The Festschrift as a whole: e.g. Studies in Nietzsche and the Classical Tradition, (edd.) James C. O´Flaherty - Timothy F. Sellner - Robert M. Helm, Chapel Hill 1976. The abbreviations for editors should be in original language (e.g. Hrsg.; éd.; edd. etc.)

  • the article in a scholarly journal: e.g. Glending Olson, The Medieval Fortunes of Theatrica, in: Traditio 42, 1986, pp. 265-286. Do not abbreviate the journals´ titles and do not place comma before the number of a volume. The title of the article should be written in italics without quotation marks. Do not write the numbers of the issue within the single volume (e.g. Listy filologické 129, 2006, pp. 418-422), except for the volume is not paginated continuously .

  • when reffering to the secondary sources in the footnotes, the first citation should contain all data; when quoting the same secondary source repeatedly, reffer to the abbreviated title (the name, including the first name, of the author should be fiven in full) and page (indicating the footnote with the full citation if needed)

  • the ancient authors: due to the interdisciplinary character of Listy filologické we ask the authors to write full name (i.e. not abbreviated) and full  (conventionaly latinized) title of the work; when refering to the books of the work use Roman numerals, the detailed segmentation should be given in Arabic numerals (e.g. Ovidius, Metamorphoses VII,53-69)

  • refering to the single books of the Bible, use the common abbreviations of Latin Vulgate
